The University of Arizona founded in 1885 as the first university in the state of Arizona. The University of Arizona, having sister institutions Northern Arizona University and Arizona State University is controlled by the Arizona Board of Regents (ABOR). The main campus sits on 380 acres in central Tucson, about 1.6 km northeast of downtown. There are 179 buildings on the main campus.
The university includes the University of Arizona College of Medicine which is one of three medical schools and the only MD granting medical school in Arizona. University of Arizona offers 334 areas of study leading to bachelors, masters, doctorate, and professional degrees. Academic departments and programs are organized into colleges and schools. The Center for World University Rankings in 2013 ranked Arizona 78th in the world and 49th in the US.

The University of D2l Arizona admitted 75% of applicants in the 2012-2013 academic year. Arizona University's students hail from all states in the U.S. While nearly 72% of students are from Arizona, nearly 10% are from California, followed by a significant student presence from Illinois, Texas, Washington, and New York. The University of Arizona has over 2 thousands international students representing 122 countries comprise approximately 6% of the total enrollment at University of Arizona.
The University of Arizona Honors College is in affiliation with the University of Arizona and provides a program for over 3,000 students that creates a smaller community feel, like that of a liberal arts college, within a large, research institution.
D2l Arizona College has a strong first-year program for its students that include common reading materials and Colloquium/Paladin classes, each honors student must complete 30 credit hours of honors credit by graduation time and maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.5.

The Arizona Health Sciences Library, built in 1996, is located on the Health Sciences Center on the north end of campus and in Phoenix on the Phoenix Biomedical Campus. The library serves the Colleges of Medication, Nursing, Pharmacy and Community Wellness, the School of Arizona Wellness Network, and is a resource for physicians and citizens across the condition.
Arizona Athletic:
Like many large public universities in the U.S., sports are a major activity on campus, Arizona's athletic teams Wildcats receive a large operating budget.
The University of Arizona participates in the NCAA's. Men's basketball, Football, Baseball, Softball, Men's and women's golf, Men's lacrosse, Rivalries, Mascot, Fight song, ZonaZoo, Notable venues are famous UA athletic teams.
Student Representation:
Overall, students at the University of Arizona have been represented by the Associated Students of the University of Arizona (ASUA) since 1913. Every year the students choose 10 Senators At-Large, an Management Vice Chief executive, an Executive Vice Chief executive and Chief executive to 1-year terms. The ASUA manages the Zona Zoo and UA Spring Affair applications, while holding administrative management for the nearly 500 college student clubs on university. The organization names 4 Administrators to provide on the school student financed and led Arizona Kids' Association. Each of the 10 Senators and all Management Officers also are hired to provide on the various School of Arizona Faculty and Management Committees.
